For 3 months in late 2010 I moved over to the Days of Thunder team to completly re-design their existing UI and HUD for the NASCAR licensed version.  Paramount liked the re-design enough that it was later applied to the ARCADE version as well.  

The UI system that was based in 3DsMax using textures applied to planes, positioned and layered in the 3D space.  This meant that the system basically had the ability to show a static plane, or not - not the most robust system, but interesting confines to try and design something visually interesting within.  Below are some examples of the mockups I made.
